Bye bye Sam 08/25/2010

Yes Sam, the adopted dog, had to go back to it's own place.  This is one dog that cannot be moved from it's territory.  This is also one dog that wants to control the place he stayed in.

Since the day my wife took him back to our home, he tried his very best to show the other dogs that he is the boss.  Every dog that passed by will be fiercely "scolded".  One day he managed to squeezed through the iron bar fencing after jumping on to the wall.  The Alsatian (GS dog) outside our house was surprised by the sudden attack and could not retaliate.

Due to this incident I had to double-fenced my house with wire mesh.  It still managed to get out a few times and had us worried about it's safety.  Then 2 weeks ago it ran out again and we could not find it.  When it came back after a few hours, it was badly wounded.  We really do not know what happened.  It is the start of my ordeal.

It's wound became bad - infection set in and then maggots start to appear.  OMG!  I had to confined him in the kitchen and sat with him day and night for 3 days.  We had to spray his wound with medication and get the maggots out.  Total - 32 maggots!  Every minute or few seconds I had to clean/dry the infected areas with tissue - to stop further infection and to prevent the stinking smell of "rotten flesh" from attracting flies/insects.

This is real torment.  It is so sad to see the dog suffer especially when "nature calls".  During the 3 days I had to used rolled newspaper to press the tissue on the wound to clean/dry as he kept snapping at my hand.  All in all it took almost 2 weeks to heal, and I'm exhausted!  I cannot go through this ordeal again and I do not want to.

My wife's friend, who persuaded her to adopt Sam in the first place, tried to take over the dog but had to surrender after one day because Sam wanted to fight with her other 2 dogs (to see who is the boss).  So yesterday Sam had to go back to it's own territory and be it's own boss.
