Suzhou - the land of gardens & waterways
This is another ancient town with 2500 year old history. Suzhou has many waterways and well preserved historical gardens. Here, there are night tours to see the spectacular night river scene & cruise along the brightly lit waterways.
We are fortunate to book our accommodation next to the river. The sight is fantastic at night and so is the place "fantastically packed" with people at night.
I had stitched 2 photos together to highlight the night scene of Suzhou's waterway.
The Lion Forest Garden
This is one of the 4 famous gardens of Suzhou. The lime-stone rocks and mounts are man-made. The garden comprises these lime-stone structures, pavilions and large ponds and beautiful flowers. The large crowd made it difficult to get a good shot of strategic locations of the garden.
Other than gardens and waterway, Suzhou has fine handicrafts and silk/silk products. After dinner we went bargain hunting along the riverside lane filled with shops and people.
One of China's famous water town is Zhouzhuang. This is bigger than Wuzhen with more shops. We enjoyed a boat ride along the river. The scene along the river is wonderful.
Discovering Zhouzhuang. This water town has lots to see and many interesting places. The tea shop is like old time and so is the rice wine "factory". Rice wine tasting(below).
