Anyway, it will be the same every year to me. I always celebrate my family members' birthdays with red eggs in the morning. If I am not mistaken the Teochews will have sweet chinese vermicelli. Red is for good luck and sweet is for a "sweet" year ahead. Another birthday food is birthday noodle. It is suppose to be for long life. So it should not be cut during cooking.
The older generation seems to be loosing touch with customs, believes, etc. The younger generation then will not be aware of these anymore. It is sad.
